So, I am a mentor for a really cool thing called FIRST Robotics! There are 3 different high schools that are on the team. The kids are the best thing [most of the times] in my life for the past 3 years. We compete with robots, the kids get a challenge and have literally 6 weeks to brainstorm, plan, and build a robot to fit the challenge given. It's a... well, challenge, but the end product is always amazing.
Anyway, this year we are competing at the Portland, OR and Seattle, WA competitions and I realized my math final was on the SAME day as the Seattle regional [I live in the Portland-Metro area]. On the syllabus the instructor wrote, "No exceptions- don't even ask!" Because it was on a Friday, I'm assuming people will try to get out of it because they want to leave early. So, I told him about how I'm a mentor for an excellent STEM opportunity for kids as young as 1st grade through high school and how our regional competition was the same weekend as the final and if I could take the other class' final, which will be on Thursday.
HE SAID YES! :] I cried... because it was a really stressful thing for me, and I was expecting him to say no, because it says "don't even ask". But who in their right mind would say no to someone who cares enough to cry about a volunteer position. No one? Well... maybe someone who was really evil or mean. Nevertheless, he said yes and that is my positive thing for today!
If anyone is reading this as I'm posting, which I slightly doubt [since no one I've told has cared to ask for the address to it], I'm posting this entry a day late because I had an absolutely awful migraine when I got home from Robotics on Wednesday night. So, there we go! :]
